Nibble #10
AI meds, archive down, NVIDIA up, LLM wars, MS Dev home, Chrome goes thicc but no cast
👋🏻 Hello and welcome to The Nibble’s #10 Edition.
Both authors were super busy this week (met after 3+ years).
We’ll be back with the regular stuff next week. Promise 🤞 (but, but you say that every week, okay seriously, no kidding.)

What’s happening 📰
💊 AI helped us create new anti-biotics for killing powerfully dangerous bacteria [Article] (So, not only can AI now fix bugs in your code, but it can fix the bugs in the body too, which is good, as healthy human tends to cry more about other small problems like losing their job to AI, see you in the next therapy session.)
🙌🏻 Internet Time Machine (archive.org) urges users politely to not bring them down. (it’s getting tougher every day to give free services to this species called “Sapiens”, the basic instinct is to exploit and make more money out of it, which led to the 1-hour outage, as someone started spamming with thousands of requests.)
📈 NVDA 0.00%↑ (Nvidia) reached a $1 trillion market cap (quad commas club, IYKYK), which makes it the first chip company to hit Trillion dollar market cap. Another fun fact, it added $183.8B in market cap alone on May 25th. Thanks to advancements in AI, as they said. [Article] (TL;DR, is this was bound to happen, the new advancements in AI, puts Nvidia in a sweet place, as we require more computation power now and Nvidia was always placed as a monopoly in GPUs & Compute power hardware, the thing to speculate around is, how they stretch their arms now.)
⚔️ Google wants to head-on with Bing now! With the new AI Search Labs, it might again lead the game as it used to, but guess who got hurt the most in this war? “SEO”. (And trust us when we say this thing is really nice.)
⌚️ Do you remember the AI, before LLMs kicked in? Well, we do and the OG Bookseller Amazon is reminding us all by starting to use AI to take out damaged goods. (it really feels good reading something with AI but not LLM or GPT in it.)
🪦 Google ends support for Chromecast (1st Gen) (if you are a Gen 1 holder, no future updates and advancements will be made on your device, happy binging!)
🔎 Instagram tests new user control for recommended posts, transparency tool for creators (Companies pushing for transparency in their products is a win for the users. Wish it was more like how Twitter did it, but small steps are better than no steps, no?)
🏠 I’m not sure if you have noticed, but Microsoft has been building a lot for the builder lately (devs). They own plenty of our daily setups like GitHub, npm, VSCode, Windows (for some of your risk takers) and now OpenAI on Azure (maybe?).
And guess what that’s not all, the company has some part of Steve Balmer.
In Microsoft Build (~ two weeks back), they announced MS Dev Home trying to get back devs back to Windows. (it looks nice from first looks, NGL)
What brings us to awe 🤪
Chrome Designer did it again, it’s now regular UI update from Google folks. There are three thumb rules:
Increasing border-radius
Icon set changes
More Material UI-zation for the product.
⌚️Devs look out for side-projects for weekends, nerds build whatever they need at the moment, and look at this fantastic watch made on a small breadboard
Tired of doing dishes, laundry, and cleaning? Prosper Robotics, an initiative by an OpenAI alum is building a Robo-bulter for you. [Article]
🎥 While everyone was riding on the fast levitating AI hype train, Web dev just got cooler too. Here’s a video from Fireship, to check what you probably missed.

TILs 🤯
[Stupid confession] We have been working with React for a while now, but you might already know that the most used and weirdest of the hook is useEffect and it never fails to surprise you. Recently, came across an issue where it was running even when the deps weren’t changing and we later found this answer. 👇🏻
That's just how useEffect works. All callbacks will run when the component mounts no matter the dependency array - no matter what values are in it, no matter whether it's empty, no matter whether it's even present at all.
[Bad Dad Joke Alert] JS, Python, and Rust walked into a bar.
JS said, “I’ll have 7”. Python said, “I’ll have just 5”. Rust said, “17 for me”.
Why did the bartender facepalm 🤦♂️? [It’s Not Wrong that"🤦🏼♂️".length == 7

What we have been trying 🔖
✂️ Cmd+X - A macOS application to make the Cut-paste flow as it should have in the first place. (you might already know, there are some quirks that come with expensive Apple machines, one of them being not being able to move/cut files very intuitively)
💼 AI Resume Chat - Hiring is hard (some say exactly like dating in a lot of ways) but the point is you can upload a lot of resumes and help AI to filter out answer stuff in chat for you.
Builders’ Nest 💪🏻
⌚️DeviceScript - Rejoice TS devs, Microsoft (yes, the creator of Windows XP) launched another cool language super-set, it’s called DeviceScript, bringing typescript’s fun experience in developing applications for IoT devices.
🍓strawberry - 3kb gzipped, build system free, frontend framework. (yes, in the world of mixed fruit stacks, here comes something closer to Vanilla, hello Team getElementById)
🏞️ unpic-img - Have you every used <img /> in production? Then you might know the pain of writing CSS to make it responsive. Here comes, a Multi-framework responsive image component.
🔐 overlay - if you are the one taking decisions on picking new deps to be installed in our system, you have to use this. It is a browser extension, that helps you evaluate a few aspects of the package and whether you should use it or not.
🤖 SuperAGI - deploy your own AutoGPT/Agents quickly with this OSS project.
Meme of the week 👑
Something to think about 🤔
“If it’s not helping us believe, then it’s not properly designed.”
~ Seth Godin
Some off-topic reads/watches 🧗
🫶🏻 Scar Tissues Make Relationships Wear Out by Prof. John Ousterhout (a little bit more off-topic than you might think, it’s really about how you should heal your scars before you move on!)
🙈 Protectionism by Jason Fried (quick read on why and how companies can care more about their employee’s time and protect it.)
🤔 Why Are Indians Disgusted by Queerness from IIP by Ashris (IIP is one of the most well-researched YouTube channels out there. Love the way he adds cultural perspectives into his videos. Plus the AI art is ❤️)
