👋🏻 hey! Welcome to 31st.
This week was a good one for Nibble, our good friend Stefan Judis published Web Weekly #113 and gave us a shout-out through it. 📢.
We wish a very Happy Halloween 🎃 to everyone who celebrates!

What’s happening 📰
👨🏻⚖️ Claude got in trouble, this time Universal Music sued Anthropic over AI-generated lyrics. (well, the bot was asked for the lyrics, it gave the lyrics word by word and ended up getting sued. 🗿)
✨ Soothsayer billionaire techie, Bill Gates predicts that GPT4 has reached a plateau and there won’t be any major changes that’ll make it enough to be called GPT-5.
🛜 Remember Pi? Inflection’s Personal AI (also, kinda therapist). Well, it now has access to the Internet, so you can talk with Pi about recent news and all. Also, just like your therapist, you can’t bullshit Pi now. And no, please do not use Pi for your programming help. It does not work that way. 🫠
👀 Google's new PaLI-3 vision language model achieves the performance of 10x larger models. It is a 5-billion-parameter Vision Language Model (a mix of a pre-trained image model and a language model, trained image-text pairs) that shows that even if a highly scaled ViT does not necessarily produce better results for image-only tasks, it can achieve significant performance leaps for multimodal tasks such as answering questions about images.
🗿 Chris Meserole is appointed as the first Executive Director of the Frontier Model Forum. The FMF also announced the creation of a new AI Safety Fund, a more than $10 million initiative to promote research in the field of AI safety. ($10M to nerf Dall-E to prevent us from generating cute pepe frogs? jk.)
🆕 Last Thursday, Arc announced Shared Folders, Space, and Split Views. Yes, now you can share a bunch of active tabs, URLs, or even super-folders (spaces) with folks. We already have shared folders per Nibble now
👍 Anthropic released a paper on “Towards Understanding Sycophancy in Language Models” where they say that models fine-tuned with RLHF may also encourage responses that match user beliefs over truthful responses, a behavior known as sycophancy. They evaluated different SoTA models such as Claude 1.3 Claude 2, GPT-3.5, GPT-4, and LLaMA 2 and found all of them to exhibit this behavior. They also released SycophancyEval, a dataset to evaluate such behavior in other LLMs.
⚔️ Data/API wars now have the right players. ICYMI, AI & SGE ain’t free, it’s costing us the data we had available for free earlier. Remember how Elon raised the X’s API pricing earlier, and now Reddit might block Google & Bing’s scraping bots as they are using data to show
🤡 Amazon brings GenAI image generation to help advertisers deliver a better ad experience for customers (psssttt more GenAI ads in your feed now). This allows advertisers to generate better image backgrounds for their product images.
What brings us to awe 😳
🏏 Last Sunday’s India vs New Zealand match was the most-watched online sports event worldwide. 4.3 crore (43M) concurrent viewers. [Tweet]
✨ Remember roadmap.sh? the site where Kamran used to curate/create/list Developer Roadmaps. Well, it now also had a Prompt Engineering Roadmap.
🍿 Streaming services (mainly OTTs) are raising the prices of their plans. But I think if you are in India, nothing to worry about, as JioCinema might take over everything and give it for free for some time.
🤖 GPU holders providing compute through blockchain is something that can solve the AI chip crisis. There are a few protocols and startups that raised money to do this. Although no doubt, such companies are prone to raise funds, after all, their pitch is “AI on Blockchain”.
😵💫 GPT-4V can be fooled by illusioned images as well, much like humans (whaaatt? It was meant to help us, not become one of us.) [Link to Tweet]
🤖 MidJourney, the most important player in the GenAI Images spaces now has a web app (after making Discord famous). So you can now log in and generate images from WebApp, and also manage subscriptions easily from there.
Today I(we) Learnt 📑
👻 So Halloween literally means “The Holy Evening before All Saints’ Day”. We love Sketchplanations for these cute little graphics explaining stuff.
🏏 Why Ashes are called “The Ashes”?
TL;DR → after Aus’s first win on England’s soil, an English newspaper published a mock obituary for the 'dead' English team, humorously declaring that the ashes of the team would be taken to Australia for cremation. And that’s where it all began. Now in the next tournament, they were told to bring back the “The Ashes”.

What we have been trying 🔖
🙆🏻♂️ You can easily manage multiple Git Identities on the same device by just configuring you're
.gitconfig
and making itdirec-treedirectory-specific. We have been doing this for more than 4 years now. Here’s an easy guide → Multiple Git Identities.🪆 Doll - Notifications in Macs are hard to manage and the notification center is no god. This little tool helps you keep them right in your HUD view in the menu bar.
📹 D-ID: Animate Any Face, Anytime, Anywhere—Right from Your Phone. (Deep fakes are the new reality).
✨ AI Emoji - Slackmoji meets AI, now generate new emojis for Slack on demand using AI. (wet dream of slack emoji enthusiasts, also Nibbler A)
Builders’ Nest 🛠️
🚫 SpamAssassin - Apache’s tool to find and filter out the spam1 out of the emails.
📦 PickBetterPack - Paste your package.json and find alternative packages for each of them. (comes in handy)
🙈 Dozer - An OSS tool to hide menu bar icons on macOS
Meme of the week 😌
Off-topic reads/watches 🧗

(read this on a Monday morning, and had 100% relatable vibes)🧠 Smart Things I’ve Read Lately by Morgan Housel, is a good bunch of quotes he read and listed in one place. (yeah kinda mind porn, but who knows if you need it)
👷🏻♂️ Emotional Labor is humanity’s MOAT over AI (yet, YET). by Seth. It’s mandatory to add one blog by Seth here, our ability to put in effort even when we see no short/medium-term rewards is GOAT ability.

Weekly Standup 🫡
Nibbler P was in a festive mood this week and would be meeting some friends over the weekend. He usually prefers to to keep his weekends free for himself but meeting interesting people every now and then is refreshing.
Nibbler A did adulting throughout the week, tons of work, little exercise, a few chess games, and less whining (than usual). Overall he is growing old & boring faster than ever.
